FK Žalgiris set up UEFA Europa league third qualifying tie versus the famous Sevilla FC after an aggregate 2:1 win over Vaduz. The second leg in Liechtenstein finished 1:1 as captain Tomaš Šimkovič scored a second half stunner. Žalgiris won the first leg 1:0.


The first half of the game in Liechtenstein saw both teams exchange attacks. Žalgiris best opportunity at the start fell to Louis Ogana, but he fired over the bar. Mid-way throug the half a set-piece found Marko Tomič, but he was denied by the goalkeeper from close range.
 
Vaduz threatened on 29 minutes and goalkeeper Džiugas Bartkus had to make an important save. Eventually the hosts foudn the goal that levelled the tie – Jodel Dossou wrigled past Tomič in the box and struck the ball expertly in to the goal.
 
Five minutes later threatened again but Žalgiris defenders stood well, allowing for a counter-attack, which ended in Šimkovič shooting just wide.
 
In the second half nervousness started to settle in as teams failed to create clear cut chance. However Žalgiris scored the all important all away goal thanks to a piece of individual brilliance from Šimkovič. The captain arrowed in a rocket from about 25 meters off the post.
 
The result 1:1 was enough for Žalgiris to qualify to the third round, where the Vilnius club will face five time tournament winners Sevilla FC. The latter side defeated Hungarian club Ujpest 7:1 on aggregate (1st leg 4:0, 2nd leg 3:1).
 
Žalgiris will travel to Sevilla for the first leg on August 9th, before welcoming their illustrious opponents in Vilnius on August 16th.
 
It will be a historic match-up since clubs for Lithuania and Spain meet for the first time in UEFA competitions.
