It didn‘t take long for FC Žalgiris to find a new head coach. On 22nd of June Green and White team introduced Valdas Urbonas, who took over the position of head coach from Aurelijus Skarbalius.

From 1993 untill 1996 Urbonas played for Žalgiris. He finished his footbal career in 2000 with FC Ekranas. From 2008 till 2013 Urbonas was the head coach of Ekranas and five times in a row won A lyga with Panevėžys team. During this span he was three times elected as a Lithuanian coach of the year.
At the start of 2013 season Urbonas resigned from FC Ekranas. Before the 2015 season he took over FC Trakai and lead this team to the second place in A lyga. But after hard loss in UEFA Europa Legue qualifications in 2016 he left Trakai.
His last job was with FC Spartaks from Jurmala. Urbonas took over this team in September 2017. With six games left in Latvian championship he managed to keep Spataks in the first place and led them to the gold medals.
