FC Žalgiris started the Champions League campaign in a spectacular fashion – capital's Club first conceded the goal but in the second half was the better side and 2:1 beat Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad.


Full LFF stadium inspired Žalgiris for a bright start, however, on 18 minutes visitors pulled off an instant counter attack and Anicet, received a good pass from his teammate, calmly steered the ball past Armantas Vitkauskas. Few minutes later, Darvydas Šernas had a perfect opportunity to level up the score but missed a good chance after the pass from Matija Ljujič.

In the second half, Ludogorets had two good chances, nevertheless, defence and Vitkauskas were on top. On 60 minutes Serge Nyuiadzi substituted an injured Liviu Antal and become the difference maker. Togo-born French player scored a goal on 78 minutes and eight minutes later made a perfect pass to Mantas Kuklys, who smashed the ball into the back of the net.

Unfortunately, Šernas received his second yellow card in the fourth added minute but Žalgiris managed to secure its first Champions League victory from 1999.
