FK Žalgiris Vilnius met FC Stumbras Kaunas in the 16th matchday of the SMScredit.LT A league season. The team played away this time around, but defeated the hosts with a confident performance 5:0 (3:0) at the end of the day to claim the three points.

The away side got off to a perfect start to the encounter, as FK Žalgiris broke the deadlock early on in the match. Team captain Egidijus Vaitkūnas found himself at the edge of the area and scored in 6th minute - smashing the ball into the bottom corner.
After the goal the visitors from Vilnius continued to actively organise attacks, but FC Stumbras Kaunas were up to the challenge with their lively defence, albeit ceding possession of the ball.
The pressure paid off, as FK Žalgiris scored their second of the night in the 17th minute of the encounter - Linas Pilibaitis received the ball from the flank right in front of goal, left completely unmarked, and easily doubled the away side's lead. Andrija Kaludjerovic with the assist.
The home team could not find an answer to the pressure of the visitors, as they maintained their attacking attitude. Marin Matoš's shot hit one of the opposition defenders in the 23rd minute, meanwhile teammate Linas Pilibaitis got in the way of Andrija Kaludjerovic's attempt moments later.
Matoš once again threatened the goal in 29th minute of the match with a dangerous shot into the far corner, but FC Stumbras Kaunas' goalkeeper Aleksandras Sikorskis rescued his team from conceding a third goal in the first half hour.
The next ten minutes saw Linas Klimavičius coming close to scoring FK Žalgiris' third of the game, as well as Donovan Slijngard showcasing his Dutch class and skill down the left flank.
Eventually, the home side's luck ran out, as Mantas Kuklys found Marin Matoš with a great pass in the 40th minute of the match. The Croatian midfielder had no trouble putting the ball into the net this time around and gave FK Žalgiris a comfortable and deserved 3:0 lead.
The beginning of the second half had a similar story as the first one - the away side scored early on, in the 48th minute, as Linas Pilibaitis went one on one with the goalkeeper and confidently slotted the ball into the net for the team's fourth and his second goal in the match. 4:0.
Just two minutes later Pilibaitis recorded himself an assist after giving the ball to Kaludjerovic, who made no mistake and scored FK Žalgiris' fifth of the night.
The attacks of the away side kept on coming like waves. Justas Lasickas, who came on as a substitute, was active throughout the second half. In the 54th minute his run and cross nearly got Matoš his second goal of the match. Ljujic's powerful shot inside the area after a corner kick from Kuklys in the 62nd minute would have went it, were it not for the goalkeeper.
Youngster Julius Momkus made his debut for FK Žalgiris' first team after coming on as a substitute in the 63rd minute of the encounter. The player has already scored 10 goals in the First League (Lithuanian Second Division) while playing for the B team.
Julius Momkus showcased his potential in the 73rd minute, when he kicked the ball past an opposition defender and sprinted around him, going one on one with the goalkeeper. Momkus just couldn't quite reach the ball as the keeper saved it.
Youngsters Julius Momkus and Justas Lasickas continued being very active until the end of the match, demonstrating their potential with speed, technique, vision, and passing, creating dangerous opportunities for themselves and their teammates, but a sixth goal was not to be. 5:0, a comfortable away victory for FK Žalgiris Vilnius.
