Since the beginning of the first half Lithuanian champions took a complete control over the ball and made one dangerous attack after another.
On the 3rd Bahrudin Atajic had a first chance to score an opening goal, but his shot flew near the poster. After just a few minutes Egidijus Vaitkūnas fired a long shot from almost the center of the pitch and hit the crossbar.
FK Liepaja defenders had a tough time trying to stop Justas Lasickas and Donovan Slijngard, who made one run through the left side of the pitch after another. Several FK Žalgiris players also had their chances to open the score sheet, but the first half ended with a result 0:0.
The second half of the game was not easy for the visitors as well. FK Žalgiris players continued to organize countless attacks, which resulted in Daniel Romanovskij, D. Slijngard and B. Atajic almost scoring.
The visitors defensive line broke on the 70th minute of playing time, when Georgas Freidgeimas made an uncatchable header and scored the only goal of the game – 1:0.
After the game the most notable man on the field Mantas Kuklys said that every time he plays he give all of his heart for the team and that resulted in him controlling the game from the first until the last whistle of the referee.
“I told to coach that I don’t like being without a ball, so this time I tried to be everywhere. I always want to score too, but I’m happy when the team wins. For that I would be happy if I wouldn’t score at all.
I think it is essential that we controlled the game. We made some mistakes, but we will have time to study and correct it. We have to reach our best form until the 28th of February, when we play against FK Trakai in Lithuanian Supercup final”, - the midfielder said.
Head-coach Valdas Dambrauskas said that his team played better than in the previous game against Jagiellonia Bialystok, but his team’s progress is going into the right direction.
“We still are short on goals, but we can solve this problem during next friendly matches. We made some mistakes, but we will correct it during our training sessions, and now we will concentrate on other matches”, - he said.
